It all starts with a message on Instagram that simply asks, “Would you like to try some wontons?” If ever there’s a message that will both surprise you and make you instantly happy, that’s the one. A few messages later, I find myself paying a quick visit to a small catering building in Massapequa. The place is warm, and clearly the owners of the all women-owned company are busy. We quickly talk about the different types of wontons offered by All American Wontons, and a freezer opens to reveal package after package of perfectly shaped wontons. Harps play and I think my eyes glaze over for a moment. No way of knowing.
With so many amazing choices, I don’t know which ones to picks!
Broccoli & Cheese
Bacon Mac & Cheese
Cookies & Cream
Salted Peanut Butter Chocolate
I leave the decision to the owner, and walk away with three packages of frozen wontons: Cookies & Cream, Broccoli & Cheese, and Jalapeno Popper. Sounds good to me!
Of course with anything you have to cook, there comes a chance that you’ll mess it up. Luckily, there are so many options for how these wontons can be cooked. You want to go traditional and fry them? Knock yourself out! You want to take the healthy route and bake them? Go right on ahead! Feel like firing up the grill, like the pit master that you are? Light it up! I opt to do a pan fry, because I want to watch the cooking process and I want them to still taste like a deep fried wonton.
First up is the Cookies & Cream:
The Cookies & Cream wontons and I learned a lot together. First, I learn that there’s a bit of to making these pan fried. I watch these little triangles cook like a hawk! I don’t want them to burn, and I don’t want them to come out without a nice sear. The Cookies & Cream wontons really did their part, because even I couldn’t mess them up. These delicious treats taste like a cake pop wrapped in a crunchy wonton wrapper. Now, excuse me while I daydream of topping them with vanilla ice cream.
Second up is the Broccoli & Cheese:
These are sure to be a favorite with all ages. Classic flavors encased in a crispy wonton is a solid way to go. You can basically give me anything with cheese, and I’ll be happy. Now, imagine what it’s like when it’s melted and in a piping hot wonton. Euphoria.
Last up is the Jalapeno Popper:
Sound the alarms - we have a winner! This wonton is all kinds of good, and the heat coming off of these jalapenos is just right. I can see myself getting sick off of these, and I mean that in the best way. The Jalapeno Popper wonton should be at every party you throw, on every appetizer dish you serve, at every football game you watch, and on every plate you grab when you watch your favorite show. Trust me on this one.
