Spotted Around Watermill

September 5, 2017

This windmill has an interesting history.  It was built in 1800 north of Sag Harbor in an area called Hog Neck, when Long Island farmers primarily focused on grain and cattle.  This windmill stopped functioning as a working mill in 1887, and was then moved to Watermill where it's been in place for over 160 years!  Even though a great deal of the interior and parts of the exterior have succumbed to dry rot, the exterior is maintained as part of the park.   To read more about the history of the windmill and its owners over the years click here.
